And here comes the end of the award season. The Golden Globes were just last month, even though it might seems so far in the past. And while this year I didn’t have the opportunity to see all of the celebrated movies last night, I definitely had my own favorites and of course, was looking forward to find out who the winners were. And there were almost no surprises throughout the entire night - there was no host as announced, no mistaken winners, not even outstanding fashion unfortunately. The biggest surprise for me was Olivia Colman winning for Best Actress in Leading Role over Glenn Close and Melissa McCarthy...
But let's get back to fashion. It’s supposed to be Hollywood's most special night and sadly, most of the looks I saw on the red carpet, were far away from special... There was no wow effect. Nothing really stood out. Which was really disappointing.
And while at the Golden Globes I was able to separate the looks I loved from the all the rest, this time around it is a more difficult task for me. But let me try.
1
Charlize Theron
This dream-blue Dior dress was probably the most beautiful colour I saw on the red carpet. Perfectly matched with the brunette hair and Bulgari diamonds, this look did stand out from everything else.
2
Kiki Layne
I'm not sure if it's this spring-pink colour or the giant bow on the back, but "If Beale Street Could Talk" actress looked stunning in this Versace gown
3
Jason Momoa
Pastel colours are very much still in this year. So much, that this "Hawaiian God" as his co-presenter Hellen Mirren called him, opted to wear a dusky pink, suede Fendi suit. And nailed it.
4
Irina Shayk
& Bradley Copper
This time they both did great! Bradley looked sharp in his Tom Ford tux while Irina was just fabulous, still quite discrete, in this turtle neck (but with amazing cutout back), back Burberry dress.
5
Melissa McCarthy
This Oscars nominee definitely came dressed as a winner. And even though the Academy Award went somewhere else, this Brandon Maxwell look was probably my favourite one on her.
Plus, I love when a woman choses a powerful, statement pants to wear.
6
Lady Gaga
This lady had a pretty amazing award season, full of outstanding outfits (my favourite is still the one from the Golden Globes though).
At the Oscars last night, she once again was channeling the old Hollywood glam with this statuesque Alexander McQueen dress, leather gloves, and specially with the 128,5-carat yellow Tiffany diamond, last worn by Audrey Hepburn back in the 1960s. However, I personally liked much better her second gown - the one she was wearing for that steamy "Shallow" performance.
7
Glenn Close
I was pretty sure this golden lady of the American cinema would finally get home her Oscar. And if she did, they would be a great match obviously.
Can I please look like this when I'm 71 years young?
Dress by Carolina Herrera
8
Allison Janney
I love a tux-inspired, velvet dress and last year's award winner delivered a stunning look in this Pamela Roland gown.
9
Lucy Boynton
& Rami Malek
The Oscars ceremony to me represents the classical Hollywood glamour and these two brought exactly that last night. This violet Rodarte gown was just perfect for her figure and skin tone.
Congratulations, Rami Malek - you got yourself an Oscar and a stunning, classy lady!
10
Regina King
What can I say, except that this dress is Oscar de la Renta and the name says it all - perfection. The only little thing that was missing for me was a necklace, but she got an Oscar instead...
I'd like to mention some more looks from last night's ceremony that had to make the cut from my "Top 10 list", but they definitely deserve attention.
Julia Roberts
It's impossible to stay indifferent to this woman and her huge smile. And when she brings a stunning, bright pink Elie Saab dress like this one, she is a showstopper.
Amy Adams
I loved seeing this Versace on the red carpet last night, mostly because of its texture. It almost looked like a mermaid's tail, which details beautifully matched the nominee's hair colour.
Billy Porter
It would be an understatement to not mention this look. And even though I see what he was going for and the idea behind creating this outfit, I don't think that the Oscars ceremony is the right place for a statement like this.
